On December 31st, 2017, the final week of the regular season, the Bills defeated the Dolphins 22–16, but they needed the Cincinnati Bengals to upset the Baltimore Ravens in order to make the playoffs. Down by four with fourth-and-12, Bengals' quarterback Andy Dalton fired a 49-yard touchdown pass to Tyler Boyd with just 44 seconds left to beat the Ravens and send the Bills to the playoffs for the first time since 1999.
